Sonora Golden Retrievers ~ History

In 1992 after researching many breeds, we decided to purchase a Golden Retriever puppy. We had three boys, ages 7, 6, and 2, and felt a Golden Retriever would be the best family companion. As Cody, our first Golden grew, so did our love for the breed.

Attending dog shows and meeting Golden breeders sparked my interest in the conformation ring. In 1994, we purchased a show puppy from Tonya Struble, Rush Hill Golden Retrievers. Tonya graciously became my mentor and friend. Her vast experience and knowledge of Goldens was instrumental in our success.

Sonora Golden Retrievers ~ Mission Statement

Breeding is a huge responsibility, and breeders must be willing to take back or assist in finding a new home for any dog they produce at any time in its life. We have strived to produce structurally sound dogs with good temperaments. In order to achieve this goal we obtain hip, elbow, heart, and eye clearances before breeding. Only Goldens displaying stable, friendly, and trainable temperaments are bred. Our goal is to produce healthy, multi-purpose dogs that can be shown in conformation, obedience, agility, tracking, and field. Most importantly, we strive to breed dogs that will perform best as lovable family companions.

Proper socialization is a crucial foundation of a healthy well-rounded puppy. Our puppies are raised inside our home and receive regular handling and play. As they mature they are carefully exposed to a variety of environments, and socialized with both adults and children to help in their adjustment. Temperament testing helps in placing each puppy with the best family environment.

Each new owner is supplied with a puppy packet containing a purchase contract, copies of parents’ health clearances and pictures, AKC registration paper, pedigree, health records, and information to help in raising, socializing, and training a new puppy. Puppy buyers are made to feel comfortable in contacting us with any questions or when seeking additional information in the future. Knowledge of offspring is important in our breeding program, and we like to stay in touch with our puppy buyers.
